What is the OISRA Alpine Division?

The Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association (OISRA) Alpine Division is the statewide governing body of high school alpine ski racing.

The OISRA was born in 1961 as an alpine organization with just a few schools scattered throughout Oregon, and a handful of alpine ski racers with a vision.

Today, the OISRA has a organizational structure that includes cross country ski racing as a separate division. The original alpine organization is now the alpine division of OISRA andit has over 60 participating schools, 700 alpine skiers, over 100 coaches, hundreds of parent volunteers, and racer skill levels that are the best in the state.

Each season is highlighted with the coveted Alpine State Championship during the first week of March at various venues, hosted by rotating leagues.

The OISRA Alpine Divisionis unique in that it is both an individual and team alpine sport. The teams that do the best are of ten the ones who are consistent, have balance, are selfless, and show support towards each other. Teammates push each other to higher levels, in turn advancing their own abilities. The OISRA represents a team's mutual striving towards individual excellence.

The OISRA Alpine Division is made up of seven alpine leagues covering the state of Oregon. Each league is made up of several high schools, which meet about eight Saturdays during the racing season. Most schools are made up of one varsity boys team, one varsity girls team, one junior varsity boys team, and one junior varsity girls team, with six individuals on each team. (See OISRA Alpine Division Rule Book for more information.)

The OISRA is a dedicated, professionally run organization with two divisions, each organized with an executive committee, and a statewide operations structure that allowsit to provide a safe, consistent, and challenging competitive environmentthat stays current with national and international ski racing practices. The OISRA is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status, operating for educational and charitable purposes.
