Rules Change and State Race Update - 1/17/07

The Alpine executive have made a change to the race rules regarding skiing the last two gates. The following is the statement from the Division Chairman:

To clarify rule C-1-c (page 12)

C. A competitor may lose one or both skis and not be disqualified.  If a second binding release occurs more than two gates from the finish, is shall be a clear disqualification.  (Omit last sentence - The competitor can ski the last two gates on one ski.)

Issued Clarification - This rule allows a competitor (regardless of first or second binding release) who skis from below the gate line of the second-to-the-last gate, through the last gate and the finish on one ski, to have a legal finish.

A competitor who has a second binding release above the gate line of the second-to-the-last gate will be disqualified.

A competitor who has a first binding release above the gate line of the second-to-the-last gate is required to put the ski back on to continue.

This amends our rule to be in line with USSA, but still allowing our second binding release rule.  USSA's rule simply says....."loses a ski more than two gates from the finish in SL, GS or SG..............this shall be considered a clear disqualification."

State 08:
The executive of the Alpine Division have decided that each league will be able to send an additional girls team to this years Alpine State Championship.  As the Southern league only has one full girl’s team they will be allowed to send an additional individual girl.

The recent policy of allowing leagues with three or more associate teams in either gender to send an additional individual for every three associate teams will continue for State 08.
